Synthesis of One-dimensional SiC-Si3N4 Nanostructures via Catalyst Assisted Pyrolysis of Polymer Precursors

This paper reports the synthesis of one-dimensional SiC and Si3N4 nanostructures via catalyst-assisted pyrolysis of polymeric precursors at various temperatures and for various time periods. It was found that pyrolysis at 1500°C for two hours yielded the largest number of nanostructures. It was also found that pyrolysis for 4 hours at 1300°C yielded more nanostructures than pyrolysis for shorter time periods.
