The Synthesis of Magnetic Nanoparticles in the Presence of Block Copolymers

The synthesis of dispersed iron oxide (Fe3O4) nanoparticles in the presence of the tri-block copolymer poly(ethylene oxide)—poly(propylene oxide)—poly(ethylene oxide), PEO-PPO-PEO, is reported. Three samples were synthesized with variations in the polymer/iron oxide nanoparticle ratio. The results were dependent upon the successful stabilization of the iron oxide nanoparticles and the supporting polymer matrix.
